Tour Description
Day 1
Guests begin their trip by flying from Fairbanks to Ruby, where they will tour this historic, gold rush community. After a trip orientation/safety session, guests will climb into double kayaks for the first leg of the journey down the mighty Yukon. We’ll pass Ruby Bluff, fish wheels and fish camps, while watching for signs of animal activity along the shore.
The first night, guests will fall asleep to the soothing sounds of Fiddlehead Creek and may awaken to the sounds of falcons hunting overhead.
Day 2
The second day is a layover day. As the Yukon River rolls by, guests may relax and enjoy the serene setting, walk the beach, or hike Sandstone Bluff to observe a peregrine nest and a sweeping view of the river and the wilderness beyond.
Day 3
We’re back on the river on day three, stopping for pictures, exploring, or perhaps panning for gold. That evening we stop at our bluff side camp on Mammoth Creek, enjoying a spectacular view of the Yukon River with the hills rolling off into the distance.
Day 4
On day four we’ll continue downriver, stopping to hunt for fossils and agates, or visiting a native cemetery. We’ll end our river journey later that evening when we reach Galena, after a total distance traveled of 52 miles since Ruby. Our accommodations this final evening will be Borealis Bed and Breakfast in Galena.
